Q & A

What is acupuncture like and will it hurt?

Thin acupuncture needles stimulate areas in the body, releasing muscle tension and stimulating blood flow. Some points may promote release of neurochemicals that will support the body to heal and recover from injury or chronic complaints. Since the needles are very thin, there is minimal discomfort for most points. Other times, people can experience a dull ache, traveling sensation, or a twitch in the muscle. Don’t be afraid to communicate if you’ve had a heightened sensitivity to similar treatment in the past. As the practitioner, my job is to make you feel as comfortable as possible.

Does my insurance cover acupuncture?

Some insurance plans have benefits for acupuncture and it may be possible to submit claims for reimbursement. If you have out of network benefits, inquire with your insurance company or send me your info and I’ll check your benefits.

Do you only treat athletes, muscle or joint issues?

I started my career as a PT in 1999, working in orthopedic medical offices, helping individuals recover from a diverse range of muscle and joint problems. Since 2005, I’ve worked as an acupuncturist in the busy metropolitan areas of Tokyo and NYC. This expanded my experience in treating a range of general medical issues, such as chronic fatigue, insomnia, stress, anxiety and headaches.
